Abstract

This manuscript is a fragment of the Canterbury Tales, including portions of the Reeve's Tale, the Cook's Tale, and the Man of Law's Tale. These eleven leaves along with two leaves in the John Rylands Library (English MS. 63) are all that survive of the 'Oxford' manuscript.

Support: Parchment; Extent: Eleven leaves; 300 x 200 mm ; Foliation: Modern pagination in pencil upper right recto and upper left verso; Collation: Fragment of eleven leaves; following the modern pagination: 9/10, 1/2 (bifolium), 3/4, 7/8 (bifolium), 5/6 (single), 13/14, 11/12 (bifolium), 15/16 (single), 17/18 (single), 19/20 (single), 21/22 (single); Catchwords: Two extant horizontal catchwords lower inside margin verso

Frame-ruled in ink; variable lay-out of text in either five stanzas of seven lines or one column of thirty-eight lines; written area: 220 x 134 mm
