This manuscript is a fourteenth-century Dominican Gradual most likely from Poissy, France, in an unusual small and portable format. Following the Temporal, Sanctoral (which includes Thomas Aquinas [fol. 210v], Peter Martyr [fol. 215r], the Translation of Saint Dominic [fol. 219v], Dominic [fol. 229v], and Louis [fol. 234v]), and Common of saints, there are chants for other masses, including votive masses for the Holy Spirit and Holy Cross, seasonal offices in honor of the Virgin, the ordinary of mass for each rank of feast, and a funeral mass. These are followed by sequences for major feasts, and at the end of the volume additional sequences have been added by multiple hands, including chants for Saints Ambrose Sansdon and Raymond of Peñafort, both of the Dominican order, and Saint Louis. Historiated initials with bar borders and ivy leaves mark major divisions of the manuscript as well as certain feasts. Seventeen historiated initials introduce selected masses and major divisions in the book.
