Abstract

Alphabetical dictionary of Latin words and names with parts of speech and definitions given by Latin synonym, Latin explanation, German equivalent, German explanation, or a combination of these methods. Introductory paragraph in Latin refers to and criticizes previous lexicographical works and emphasizes the benefits of alphabetical arrangement.

Support: paper; Extent: 194 leaves : 218 x 142 (156 x 98) mm. bound to 218 x 165 mm; Collation: Paper, 194; 1-13¹² 14¹²(-1) 15¹⁰ 16¹⁴ 17⁶(-3); [1-194], modern foliation in pencil, upper right recto. Catchwords on last leaf of gatherings 1-13, lower right verso.

Layout

Written in 3 columns of 28-39 lines; 2 narrow columns on the left, which contain single letters or abbreviations probably referring to gender and part of speech, and the main column containing dictionary entries and definitions; frame-ruled in faint ink.

Script

Written in Gothic cursive script.

Decoration

2 5-line initials in red with brown penwork (f. 1r); 2-line to 4-line initials in red, at the beginning of each new letter section and occasionally for entries in the middle of letter sections, through H (f. 6v-89r); capitals touched with red (f. 1r-89r).
