Papal formulary (f. 8-79r), with a register (f. 1r-7v). Also contains the text of another formulary, Forme romane curie ... super casibus penitentie, of Thomas of Capua (f. 80v-104r), with a register (f. 79v-80v). The author is identified in the caption of the second formulary (f. 80v).

Support: parchment; Extent: 104 leaves : 217 x 152 (156 x 109) mm. bound to 228 x 156 mm; Collation: Parchment, ii (modern paper) + 104 + i (modern paper); 1⁴(-1), 2⁶, 3⁶(-1), 4-7⁶, 8⁷, 9⁶; i-civ; contemporary red roman numerals (added by the rubricator, following indications made by the scribe), upper center (each verso has the same number as the following recto, i.e. facing pages are given the same number); modern foliation in pencil, upper right recto. Catchwords lower center, last verso of each quire.

Written in an Italian Gothic book script.

Decoration

Red and blue initials throughout, some with filigree; small blue and red drawing of a face (f. 79r).

Notes

Title for manuscript from caption title for predominant work (f. 8r). Spine title: Forme Romane Curie.

First work, incipit and explicit: (f. 8r) In litteris indulgentie videlicet ... (f. 79r) et de dampnis et iniuriis eisdem irrogatis satis. compare [?]. modo [?]. per.

Second work, incipit and explicit: (f. 80v) Abbati cavensi. Cum monasterii vestri veneranda ... (f. 104r) Presumptores predictos ad examen eiusdem archiepiscopi remittatis.

Two leaves have been cut out between f. 7-8, and between f. 28-29.

An unidentified dealer's description in French is pasted onto the front flyleaf.

Written in Italy, in the late 13th or early 14th century. Zacour-Hirsch suggests ca. 1290.

Binding

19th- or early 20th-century three-quarter calf with marbled paper, over cardboard, possibly French. Paper endleaf is loose, leather of cover wearing around the edges; leather almost completely split and separated along both front and back hinges; cover boards becoming loose at hinges; spine is starting to crumble and split.
