Abstract

Two works written in one hand: A copy of Frère Robert's Château périlleux, (f. 1r-85v), and a second work, Le Pelerinage de Damoiselle Sapience, (f. 86r-95v). Account of the Passion of Jesus Christ is interpolated in first work (f. 51r-63v).

Support: paper; Extent: 101 leaves : 202 x 141 (134 x 88) mm. bound to 208 x 145 mm; Foliation: Paper, iii (modern paper) + 95 + iii (modern paper); [1-95]; 19th-century[?] foliation in ink, upper right recto.

Written in 28 long lines; ruled in ink; prickings visible.

Script

Written in bâtarde script by a single hand.

Decoration

5-line puzzle initial in red and blue with red penwork ornamentation (f. 1r); 2-line red or blue initials throughout; capitals touched in yellow; red or blue paragraph marks; red used for underlining.

First work, incipit (f. 1r): Cy commence le chateau perilleux compose par ung devot religieux nomme Robert; (f. 85v)...Explicit Le chastiau perilleux.

Second work, incipit (f. 86r): Damoiselle Sapience sen ala oultre mer en pelerinage par devotion...

Attribution to Robert de Saint-Martin made by Sister Marie Brisson.

Moderate to heavy oxidation of ink at the end, particularly f. 86-95.
