Abstract

Bible in 2 volumes (Old and New Testament) with prologues. The Interpretation of Hebrew names (in the same hand as the Bible) and highly abbreviated capitula lists for most of the Old Testament (in a slightly larger, less formal hand) follow the New Testament.

Support: parchment; Extent: 2 v. (360, 140 leaves) : 149 x 102 (99 x 73) mm. bound to 160 x 113 mm; Foliation: V.1: Parchment, 360; 1-97a, 97b-359; V.2: Parchment, 140; 1-121a, 121b-128a, 128b-138; modern pencil foliation, lower left verso.

Layout

Bible written in 2 columns of 50 lines; Interpretation of Names written in 3 columns of 50 lines; capitula lists written in 3 columns of 46-49 lines.

Script

Written in a Gothic script.

Decoration

Puzzle initials at the beginning of each book, with flourishing, and three with faces as part of their ornamentation (v. 1, f. 1r, 3v; v. 2, f. 1r); red and blue minor initials, with contrasting flourishing; red and blue running titles and chapter numeration. The use of teal for the contrasting flourishing of red initials suggests English origins. There are a number of errors in the rubrication.
